Three Recommended Restaurants with Night Views in Fukuoka

Travel Guides

1st Stop: Bar & Dining CLOUDS (Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk 35F)

The moment the elevator doors opened on the 35th floor, I was greeted by a stunning expanse of blue. That’s Hakata Bay. In the foreground, the white roof of PayPay Dome stands out, with the silhouette of Shika Island beyond it. If you visit during sunset, you might even catch the dark outline of Noko Island. There’s no other high-rise restaurant in Fukuoka that’s this close to the sea.

What Makes This Place Special

The panoramic windows, about 123 meters above ground, offer completely different views depending on where you sit. If you’re by the northwest window, you’ll see the sunset over the Genkai Sea; on the east side, the night view sparkles like a rainbow, showcasing the buildings of Hakata Port and Island City. The menu is casual, featuring dishes like linguine all’amatriciana and a carefully selected grill plate—perfect for a relaxed dining experience. If you’ve avoided hotel dining because you think it’s too formal, this place is definitely worth a visit.

  • Tip for Visiting: Arrive 30 minutes before sunset to enjoy three scenes—sunset, twilight, and night view—from one table. Window seats require a reservation.

Shiro’s Tip

On nights when there’s a game at PayPay Dome, the dome lights up like a jewel box in a bluish-white glow. On nights when fireworks go off after the game, a few select seats become prime spots, so it’s a good idea to book in line with the Hawks’ schedule.

Second Stop: WAN STEAK HOUSE (ONE FUKUOKA HOTEL 19F / Tenjin)

WAN STEAK HOUSE just opened in 2025, located on the 19th floor of the ONE FUKUOKA HOTEL. In the heart of Fukuoka, being on the 19th floor is surprisingly rare, offering a perfect height to look down on the surrounding mid-rise buildings. When you sit close to the window, you can see the bustling crowd at the Tenjin intersection moving like tiny ants, with Kego Park, the Uminonakamichi, and the dark expanse of Hakata Bay stretching out beyond them.

What Makes This Place Special

The star here is the Kyushu black wagyu beef. When the chef brushes some fat on the hot iron plate and places the meat down, the sizzle that rises becomes part of the night view’s soundtrack. The crisp sound when you bite into garlic chips, the glossy sheen of soy sauce brushed on, and the garlic rice that dances with its charred bits on the grill—all your senses come alive in front of that iron plate. I felt that this was one of the best counters in Fukuoka to truly experience the saying I learned in a three-star restaurant in Paris: “Cooking is theater.”

Store Information

  • Address: 1-11-1 Tenjin, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, Fukuoka Prefecture, ONE FUKUOKA BLDG 19F
  • Access: Directly connected to Tenjin Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line / About a 3-minute walk from Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station on the Nishitetsu Tenjin Omuta Line
  • Hours: Lunch 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM / Dinner 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM (Daily)
  • Tip for Visiting: If you make a dinner reservation around 6 PM, you can enjoy the transition from daylight to night view at the counter. The wagyu course requires a reservation.

Shiro’s Tip

Since it’s directly connected to Tenjin Station, you can arrive without getting your shoes wet, even in the rain. For inbound travelers, staying at the ONE FUKUOKA HOTEL in the same building means you can head straight to your room via the elevator after dinner—it’s like a dream come true for FIT travelers.

3rd Stop: Teppanyaki Mitoju (Nishinakasu)

Crossing the Nishinakasu Bridge over the Nakagawa River, I spot a cozy little building called the Left Bank Building, its lights glowing on the second floor. Below, the black river flows, and across the way, the neon signs of Nakasu—pink, purple, and gold—dance on the water’s surface, making me feel like I’m inside a vibrant Monet painting. I don’t know of any other teppanyaki places in Fukuoka where you can see the “Nakasu neon across the river” from your window seat.

What Makes This Place Special

On the counter, the teppan grill showcases Aomori’s famous Michinoku Wagyu, fresh vegetables from Itoshima, and seafood like shrimp and abalone from the Genkai Sea. When the chef makes the abalone dance, the aroma of liver butter wafts through the air, and the neon lights across the river come into view—it’s a moment that just can’t be captured in a photo. It’s the kind of experience that opens a separate channel in your memory. The Michinoku Wagyu has a delicate marbling, and after the right amount of fat is rendered on the grill, the rich flavor of the lean meat really shines. This place flips the script on the typical restaurant where “the night view is the main attraction and the food is an afterthought”—here, the food takes center stage, equally matched with the night view.

Restaurant Information

  • Address: 4-9 Nishinakasu, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Left Bank Building 2F
  • Access: About a 5-minute walk from Nakasu-Kawabata Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line / About a 2-minute walk from the Nishinakasu bus stop on the Nishitetsu Bus
  • Hours: Lunch 12:00–14:30 / Dinner 17:30–22:30
  • Closed: Sundays
  • Tip for Visiting: There are only a few window seats on the river side. Be sure to mention “window side preferred” when making your reservation. Reservations by phone only (092-401-1755).

Shiro’s Tip

After your meal, step out and pause in the middle of Nishinakasu Bridge. The Nakasu yatai street is right in front of you. If you grab a bowl of tonkotsu ramen from a yatai to finish off your night, you’ll have completed a culinary journey through Fukuoka’s night views—from high-end to street food.

Practical Tips for Inbound FIT

Some restaurants with night views may not have staff who can take reservations in foreign languages. Using Tabelog (with an English version) or the official website’s online reservation form is the safest bet. The taxi apps “GO” and “DiDi” have English UIs, making it easy to call a ride from your hotel to the restaurant or from the restaurant to your next spot. For getting around the city, the Fukuoka City Subway one-day pass (640 yen) is also convenient.

Travel Prep: eSIM & Transportation Pass

Confirming restaurant reservations, searching for places on Google Maps, and calling taxi apps—all of these require stable communication. If you purchase an eSIM in advance, you can get online as soon as you land at the airport. The JR Kyushu Rail Pass is a great deal if you plan to venture from Fukuoka to places like Yufuin or Nagasaki.

Summary

If you think about “searching” for restaurants where you can enjoy the night view and the food equally, your experience in Fukuoka will become much richer. The sea at CLOUDS, the cityscape at WAN STEAK HOUSE, the river at Mitoju—these three types of night views show you different sides of Fukuoka. One reason I chose Fukuoka as my base after traveling to 35 countries is precisely this “diversity of night views.”

It might be a bit ambitious to hit two places in one night, but just adding one “night of dinner with a night view” to your itinerary deepens your memories of this city. Raise a glass to that moment when light and food resonate together.
