In July, the summer heat clings to your skin in Fukuoka. Every year, the area around the Mizuho PayPay Dome gets wrapped up in the excitement of Kyushu’s largest outdoor festival, “NUMBER SHOT.” During these few days, tens of thousands of music fans gather from all over the country, and the restaurants and transportation around the dome become a chaotic mess.
If you’ve gone through the trouble of getting a ticket to Fukuoka, it would be a shame to just end the night exhausted from the festival with a convenience store bento. By basing yourself in the Nishijin area, just one or two stations away from the dome, you can skillfully avoid the crowds and truly enjoy Fukuoka’s rich food culture.
This article offers a complete one-day model plan that keeps the music vibes alive—from fueling up before the festival starts, to savoring late-night tonkotsu ramen that seeps into your tired body after the show, and even choosing a hotel where you can collapse into bed without a hitch.
NUMBER SHOT One-Day Model Course
This is a timetable to maximize your energy and excitement on the day of the festival. It’s key to not only use the directly connected Tojinmachi Station but also to make good use of the neighboring Nishijin Station.
- 12:00 Arrive at Nishijin Station. Enjoy a premium wagyu lunch at “Nishijin Hatsu Ki Honkan.”
- 13:30 Move to the dome by bus or on foot from Nishijin.
- 14:00〜 Join NUMBER SHOT at Mizuho PayPay Dome.
- 21:30 After the show ends, avoid the crowded Tojinmachi Station and walk towards Nishijin.
- 22:00 Late-night ramen celebration at “Nishijin Iruka-ya.”
- 23:30 Head straight to the hotel you reserved.
First Stop: Nishijin Hatsuaki Main Store (Nishijin)
Before a festival, you definitely want something that will give you strength. Tucked away just off the Nishijin shopping street, “Hatsuaki” is a long-established place that started as a butcher shop decades ago. The rich, sweet-savory aroma of the dipping sauce wafts out from behind the heavy wooden door, hitting your appetite like a freight train.
While the food court near the dome is a battlefield for seating, here you can wait in a calm tatami room for the marbled wagyu to simmer quietly. Before the upcoming chaos begins, it’s a treat to savor top-notch meat in the stillness. This contrast really boosts the satisfaction of your journey.
The Charm of the Shop
Above all, it’s about the quality of the meat and the skill in cutting it. The moment the marbled wagyu touches the heated iron of the sukiyaki pot, you hear that satisfying “sizzle.” The sweet aroma of the dipping sauce rises, and when you dip it in the beaten egg and bring it to your mouth, it melts away without a fight.
Even during lunch, beautifully marbled meat is served with care. It’s the perfect choice to fuel up for bouncing around at the festival. Since it’s served in a quiet Japanese space, it’s also ideal for slowly strategizing your “today’s timetable” with friends or family.

Shiro’s Tip
The lunch menu offers quality that exceeds the price. It’s a place you can’t go wrong with for friends from abroad looking for a “real wagyu experience.” They also have an English menu, which is a big help for inbound visitors.
2nd Stop: Nishijin Uminoya (Nishijin)
It’s just past 9 PM. After soaking in the last sounds of the festival, I leave the dome with a ringing in my ears and a sense of emptiness. Heading back to the hotel feels impossible—my excitement has nowhere to go, and I don’t have the energy to stand in line.
Avoiding the long queue at Tojinmachi Station, I stroll for about 15 minutes toward Nishijin, where the lanterns of “Uminoya” come into view. The light, glowing late into the night, feels like a warm welcome for those returning from the festival or finishing up a night out—a beacon of kindness.
The Charm of the Place
The ramen here is a bit of a rarity in Hakata—tonkotsu shoyu. The creamy richness of the pork bone broth, combined with the sharp edge of the soy sauce, hits my body directly, especially after sweating and craving salt.
The chewy, medium-thick noodles cling to the broth, and with each slurp, I can’t help but let out a sigh of relief—“Ah, this is life.” And I can’t forget the spicy takana on the table. Mixing a bit into the broth transforms the flavor from sweet to spicy, creating a delightful combination that keeps things interesting until the last drop. I know it’s a guilty pleasure, but I can’t help but finish every last bit of the soup.

Shiro’s Tip
The fried rice on the side is actually fantastic. The fluffy rice creates an endless loop with the ramen broth. If you’re at your hunger limit, don’t hesitate to order it as a set.
Access, Route Guide, and Recommended Hotels
For a base during the festival, I recommend hotels within walking distance to the dome or those in Tenjin that you can reach by a single subway ride from Nishijin.
